Communities
Local people coming together to advocate for fair, inclusive schools… that’s what democracy is all about!
What You’re Facing
In communities across the state, community organizations are coming together to resist extremist school board politics and advocate for policies that put students first—policies like:
Curriculum that represents the scope of American diversity and engages thoughtfully with historical truths about gender and race.
Inclusion and affirmation for LGBTQ+ students.
Proactive prevention of bullying and harassment, and robust strategies for responding to known harassment issues.
Fair, transparent discipline
What I Do To Help
I offer a range of services to help community organizations push effectively for the schools their kids need. These include:
Presentations and trainings on student rights and key areas of school board policy
Helping you frame and advocate for specific policy demands, including drafting proposed policy.
Media consulting—helping you refine your message and use the media to advance your objectives.
Legal representation in actions designed to hold school boards accountable and move policy forward.
Why This Is Important
Community advocacy is most powerful when it’s focused on well-defined goals, and when advocates can integrate legal and communications tools into a coordinated strategy. I’ll share my knowledge, experience, connections and ideas with you to make your organization an impactful voice in your community.
FAQ
What does it cost to work with you?
I offer an initial 30-60 minute consultation for $50. After that, depending on the nature of the work, I may be able to offer either a very reasonable hourly rate or a range of flat fee or capped fee arrangements. For more information about pricing, click here.
How Does This Process Work?
It starts with a conversation! Whether you are a student, a community organization, or a school board or board member, we'll start with an initial consultation where I'll learn about your specific needs, challenges and goals with respect to your local schools. Based on that information, we'll discuss potential next steps and, if appropriate, agree on a plan for further consulting or legal services.
