School boards have enormous power to set their own curriculum —- as long as they meet the school district standards laid out in Wisconsin statutes. And that means they have to provide diverse instructional materials and texts. They have latitude to decide how they will meet these requirements. But if they don’t meet the requirements, their communities can hold them accountable.
